Report: Metal Made In Massachusetts

A seemingly never-ending wave of Bay State bands has kept the metal world's eyes — and ears — fixated on Massachusetts for the past several years.
Some have not quite lived up to the hype. But others have blown up beyond expectations and bolstered the region’s reputation as a "Headbanger's Ball" breeding ground.
Put KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in the latter category.
"It's been a cool thing to be a part of," KILLSWITCH vocalist Howard Jones said from his home in Connecticut. "There's always been a ton of cool bands in this area. For some reason, attention started being paid here. We've been really lucky."
Luck may be too humble an explanation. Timing, hard work and a furious knack for the huge hook are more likely explanations. Regardless of the reasons, the Westfield-hatched KILLSWITCH has zoomed to the forefront of an evolving metal movement led by a swarm of Massachusetts-based power players.
Propelled by Jones' introspective lyrics and intense combination of hardcore growls and dynamic melodies, KILLSWITCH earned a Grammy nomination for 2004's "The End of Heartache". The ride hasn’t slowed with the group's latest CD, "As Daylight Dies".
